According to an advertisement for the targets on a firearms auction website, the seller is a supporter of George Zimmerman, stating “he is innocent and he shot a thug". For Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara, this may put his client in an even worse light.
“It’s the highest level of disgust and the lowest level of civility,” he told Local 6. “It’s this type of hatred--because that’s what that is, hate-mongering--that’s going to make it more difficult to actually try this case.”
Since the story has broken, several gun-enthusiast websites have commented, most of them against the selling of the targets. Before the seller knew he was being interviewed for a news story, he said that the targets were still available. After the reporter identified himself, however, he said they were no longer being sold.
Either way, this will not be a good addition to O’Mara’s slew of issues with defending Zimmerman in the case.
“I hope there is a crime we could charge the person who made that with,” he said. “I’m not sure what it is, but we need to come up with one, because that’s disgusting.”
